2 Beautiful Ways to Finish Your 8-Pointed Woven Star
Weaving an 8-pointed star is one of the most loved crafts in our community — simple, mindful and deeply symbolic. This is the star my mother learnt growing up in Samoa, and it’s the one I’ll be teaching again this World Star Weaving Day, Tuesday 2 December 2025. 💛
Once you’ve completed your woven star, there are two beautiful ways to finish your 8-pointed woven star. These folds can only be completed if you have at least 5 cm lengths of ribbon left. You can watch the full video tutorial on @maryanntaliapau instagram.
🌼 1. The Classic Fold
This is the most popular of the folded finishes — clean, symmetrical, and perfect for displaying in your home on a Christmas tress or gifting to a friend.
To create this classic fold:
Gently fold each ribbon end back over to the following square. Crease and then form a right angled triangle and crease.
Secure the fold by tucking in the end into the following square pocket.
This style is timeless and elegant — a reminder of the Samoan stars woven by generations before us.

🌺 2. The Tucked Finish
If you want to add dimension, try this creative variation.
Tuck the ribbon ends under the neighbouring fold.
This creates a raised, 3D effect that catches the light.
This version adds texture and a playful flair — perfect for ornaments, installations, or stringing together for community weaving projects.
