The Heart Behind the Name

Our Story

Damper represents Mark’s First Nations and South Sea Islander roots.

Fetū comes from Maryann’s Pacific Islander heritage, meaning “star” in Samoan.

Together, Damper & Fetū represents the beautiful blend of our worlds.

We like to see it as Earth and Sky coming together : )

How we got here

Our journey to this blog began during our travel to Uluṟu and Aotearoa New Zealand in 2025.

Mark brings his passion for Indigenous leadership, cross cultural collaboration and First Nations and Australian cultures. You can see more of his work at Super Native Unlimited.

I’m Maryann and I’m the founder of One Billion Stars (formerly One Million Stars to End Violence) and share my love for art and Sāmoan | Pasifika weaving as a tool for conversation, community building and healing.

But more than our individual talents, it’s our shared commitment to living with purpose that drives and weaves together everything we create here.

We started Damper & Fetū because we’re life partners, sharing our adventures in life and work and we wanted to created a home for our creative projects.

Thank you

Thank you for being part of our growing story. Whether you’re here for the slow weaving or just the encouragement that it’s possible to build a meaningful life while staying true to your values – you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

This is more than a blog. It’s a movement toward living with intention, building with purpose, and honouring the past while creating the future.

Welcome to Damper & Fetū. We’re so glad you’re here.
