January Threads – Courage, health & a new season

January Threads - Courage, health and a new season

January always feels like a deep breath.
A pause. A beginning. A quiet but powerful invitation to start again.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve sat in circles with people who arrived curious, nervous, excited, and open.

In our January weaving workshops, I witnessed hands learning new rhythms, conversations emerging and something gently shifting.

Raffia became earrings. Fibres will soon become baskets. Strangers are becoming companions and confidence is quietly growing where apprehension may have lingered.

What I noticed most wasn’t the finished pieces — it was the courage. The bravery it takes to try something new.

To show up unsure. To trust your hands. To give yourself permission to learn, play, and begin again.

This season of post-menopause is inspiring me to let go of an old version of myself — and while it feels plain and uneventful on the outside, it’s a significant and thrilling experience internally.

I’m learning to honour my body differently now, trying new gym classes, taking on new physical challenges. Putting my health first without apology. Creating an identity that supports where I am now, not where I used to be. Again, it sounds magical but it’s also new and scary and I really get to ask questions like “What do I want?”

As 2026 unfolds, I feel a quiet excitement building — new projects, new collaborations, new creative risks. This year is asking us to be brave. To face the fear of beginning. To choose growth over comfort. To trust that becoming is just as important as arriving.

This is the first of my weekly reflections for 2026 — a place to share what I’m learning through making, movement, and mindful living.

If you’re standing at the edge of something new, I hope you’ll walk alongside me.
