World Star Weaving Day

💫 About World Star Weaving Day

World Star Weaving Day is an annual global event inspired by the One Billion Stars movement, created by Maryann Talia Pau. It’s a global community campaign using star weaving to build hope, courage, and connection in communities everywhere.

First launched on Friday 2 December 2022, One Billion Stars founder Maryann Talia Pau partnered with The Big Design Market Melbourne at the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton to host public weaving workshops. This event reignited the spirit of community that began nearly a decade earlier — welcoming everyone to take part in a global act of creative kindness, courage and an end to violence.

🌟A Legacy of Light: From One Million to One Billion Stars

The story of One Billion Stars began with a single act of creativity and compassion.

In 2013, at The Big Design Market Melbourne, Maryann unveiled the first One Million Stars to End Violence installation — featuring 10,000 hand-woven stars created by communities around the world.

Those stars later joined more than one million woven stars in a breathtaking display at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in King George Square, Brisbane, shining as a collective symbol of peace, courage and respect.

Now, that light will continue to grow, through World Star Weaving Day and more locally led star weaving workshops — connecting millions of people across continents through art, storytelling and shared hope.

🌿 Why We Celebrate

Every star is a reminder that small, creative acts can bring healing and unity.
World Star Weaving Day encourages people everywhere to:

  • Weave for Hope — transform grief and fear into light.

  • 💛 Weave for Courage — stand against violence and for safety in our communities.

  • 🌈 Weave for Connection — build bridges across cultures and generations.

  • 🌿 Weave for Joy & Respect — celebrate life, art and shared humanity.
